“Do I contradict myself? Very well then, I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes.”—Walt Whitman
Life and poetry contain many competing forces: “Yin and Yang,” “Good and Evil,” “Dark and Light,” “Foolishness and Wisdom,” etc. It is this wrestling match that makes both life and poetry so engaging. A great poem will emphasize the struggle and heighten the drama between forces. In this workshop we will use surreal games and solid writing techniques to create throw-down, knock-out, can’t-look-away tension in your writing. We’ll edit your drafts to bring out these dynamics. So bring your pen, paper, an unfinished draft, and a set of boxing gloves to this class, taught by award-winning poet, Tresha Faye Haefner, and let the grand match begin.
