CANCELED Publishing Ins and Outs

Publishing Ins and Outs

March 28, 2020, 10am-12pm

Yellow Arrow House, 335 S Conkling St, Baltimore, MD 21224

Publishing is every writer's dream, but there are several avenues to take towards achieving this goal. So how do you know which one is right for you? In this workshop, we will delve into the different types of publishing. For the first half of the workshop, join Ariele Sieling as she gives a high level overview of the process by which you can independently publish a novel--what steps you need to take, the tools available, and the general costs of doing so. In the second half of the workshop, hear from local small presses as they discuss the ins and outs of the traditional publishing world--pitching agents, querying, and navigating the traditional publishing process.

ARIELE SIELING is a Baltimore-based writer, specializing in science fiction and speculative fiction. Her work includes soft science fiction series, the Sagittan Chronicles, post-apocalyptic series, Land of Szornyek, and children’s book series, Rutherford the Unicorn Sheep. In addition, she has numerous short stories and essays published in a variety of anthologies and magazines. Originally from upstate New York and more recently from New Hampshire, she now lives in Baltimore with three cats, a dog, a fish, and a husband. Visit her website to learn more about her.

MASON JAR PRESS has been publishing handmade, limited-run chapbooks and full-length books since 2014. The Press is dedicated to finding new and exciting work by writers that push the bounds of literary norms. While the work Mason Jar seeks to publish is meant to challenge status quos, both literary and culturally, it must also have significant merit in both
those realms.

GWEN VAN VELSOR writes creative nonfiction and pseudo-inspirational prose. She is the founder of Yellow Arrow Publishing, a project that publishes and supports writers who identify as women. Raised in Portland, Oregon, Gwen has moved many times, from sea to shining sea, now calling Highlandtown, Baltimore her forever home. Her major accomplishments include walking the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain, raising a toddler, and being ok with life exactly as it is. Her memoir, Follow That Arrow, was published in 2016.
