At the heart of UpSpring, is the concept of r[a]ise: how one can rise as an individual and/or raise their community. UpSpring examines our pivotal moments (or upsprings), whether happy or sad, whether quiet or loud, and how they impact our lives. Given the reflective nature of the topic, our contributors, including guest editor, Rebecca Pelky, were asked to explore how their piece represents an upspring for them. Short answers can be found at the beginning of each piece (top and center) within the paperback version while longer responses are included after each piece within the electronic version.

Editorial Reviews:
“This particular issue, like its journal predecessors, is a must-have. With stunning cover art, each issue is a gem. . . . Vanesha Pravin’s “Olive Oil, Sumac & Harissa” . . . is a delightfully wild ride through a cascade of cooking ingredients paving the way to the satisfaction and the solace of preparing a meal for one. And if you want a journey into deep space, read Ren Pike’s poem, “Making Space: Black Holes and Other Loners, 2019.” It brings me back to my fascination with black holes and is a celebration of the unknown, leading me to recall the soulful, early '70s Labelle song, Black Holes In The Sky.”
